HARD2D: Two-dimensional materials as ultrathin corrosion barriers on steels by adapting industrial surface hardening processes (Supervisor: D. Eder)
Short bio: Bernhard Fickl holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Physics from the University of Vienna, Austria. His Master work focussed on high resolution electron microscopy of 2D materials.
Summary of the PhD project: Within his FFG-funded PhD project "HARD2D", Bernhard works on adapting chemical vapour deposition of graphene and other 2D materials and hybrids to use them as functionality-enhanced corrosion barriers for steels. More details: www.nanobayer.com
Thoughts on TU-D: Collaboration and interdisciplinarity are at the heart of scientific work, and TU-D is a very nice platform to resonate ideas and explore new collaboration accross TU Wien on various topics related to 2D materials.
