Modeling the degradation in devices based on 2D materials (Supervisor: T. Grasser)

Short bio: Theresia Knobloch Theresia received her BSc in Technical Physics and her MSc in Microelectronics and Photonics from TU Wien in 2014 and 2016, respectively. During her master studies she already focused on the reliability modeling of electrical devices and studied the behavior of Molybednum Disulfide transistors in her master thesis.

Summary of the PhD project:
My PhD project aims at developing an understanding of the non-idealities in devices based on 2D materials, with a special focus on MOSFETs. MOSFETs based on 2D materials promise ultimate scaling, henceforth good electrostatic and switching properties. However, the performance of the experimentally fabricated devices is still poor and with our modeling approach we want to understand whether the degradation is caused by the immature production process or by intrinsic material properties and is thus unavoidable.

Thoughts on TU-D: Especially in such a young and fast developing area of science interdisciplinary discussions are indispensable for really unraveling the foundations of this field. A platform like this helps to bring together scientists working on similar topics but using completely different approaches.
